MIAMI, FLA. — A Florida mother has been arrested after police say she beat her 8-year-old son and then killed a family pet right in front of him.

According to the Miami Herald, Charlotte Wonjah, 26, remains in jail after making an appearance in court on New Year’s Day for child abuse and animal cruelty charges.

Authorities say Wonjah beat her 8-year-old boy with a rope and then killed his puppy by slamming the animal on the floor repeatedly.

The boy was found with several welts and bruises all over his body in different stages of healing, according to police.

Multiple media outlets report that Wonjah took the life of the 1-month-old puppy because she was tired of cleaning up after it.

Wonjah is now facing two counts of misdemeanor battery for the horrendous incident.
