A 17-year-old housemaid, Esther Abiodun, who confessed how her mistress, Alhaja Dupe Iba Agba, had been maltreating her, decided to take vengeance on the woman by emptying a pot of boiling water on her while she was was sleeping, causing her serious injuries.
This came to light when the teenager was dragged to an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State, where she was arraigned on a two-count charge of felony and causing grievous bodily harm on her employer.
The police prosecutor in the case, Inspector Philip Osijale, told the court that the maid committed the act on September 14, at her employer’s residence located at 20/21, Osho Street, Lagos Island.
Osijale told the court that Abiodun had deliberately emptied the hot water on her boss while she was asleep and in the process, the woman sustained serious burns all over her body including chest, right and left hands.
Abiodun was later arrested by the police from the Adeniji Adele Division, from where she was charged to court while the victim was rushed to intensive care unit in a private hospital where doctors battled to save her life.
The prosecutor further stated that that during investigation, the accused confessed to the crime and said that she intentionally boiled the hot water and poured it on her employer’s body to teach her a lesson for maltreating her.
When the charges were read to her, Abiodun pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mr. W. Balogun, ordered that she be remanded at the Lagos State Correctional Centre, Idiaraba, Mushin, pending when the case will be heard on a later date.
This is the third incidence of house helps taking vengeance on their bosses for not treating them right.
