FLORIDA — An elderly woman has been arrested for allegedly attacking a 10-year-old with a hammer.

Iona Aiken, 79, was taken into custody on Monday following the attack at a Florida home, according to Miami-Dade police and NBC’s 6.

NBC’s 6 reported that the girl was listening to headphones and playing on a tablet when Aiken began hitting her with a hammer.

The girl informed authorities that Aiken had hit her four times on the head and once on the shoulder, resulting in a concussion.

After the attack, the girl and her mother ran to a neighbor’s home for help.

The 10-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Aiken is now facing charges of aggravated child abuse.
