The parish priest of Church of Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ochigbo has been arrested and arraigned before an Upper Area Court in Abuja for allegedly raping a 10-year-old daughter of a parishioner. The mother of the girl, Mrs. Grace Ibong of Kuruduma village, Asokoro, Abuja, reported the matter to the police. According to her, after a church service in the said church, the Rev. Father asked her to leave her 10-year old and 8- year-old daughters to spend the night with him, which she did. When she came back to the Rev. Father’s house to pick her children, she discovered an unusual movement from her 10-year old daughter. When asked why she was moving unusually, the little girl told her that the Rev. Father forcefully had carnal knowledge of her without her consent during the night. The said offence contravenes section 283 of the penal code. The Rev. Father was earlier arraigned at the upper area court, Guru, Abuja. The prosecutor however later withdrew the case from the area court in order to transfer it to the High Court upon the instruction of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).
