A 6-year-old Chinese boy has been left with an almost featureless face after an appalling fire burned his face off few years ago – and tragically, his impoverished parents cannot afford any more surgery to help him.
The little boy who goes by the name Wang lives behind a mask of scar tissue after an accident in which he set himself ablaze after igniting a pile of corn straw with a cigarette lighter.
Wang survived his ordeal after being rushed to hospital. But his parents could only afford to pay for three months of treatment – despite spending their life savings and selling their house and land to help fund the 150,000 yuan medical costs.
The six-year-old has been without hair, lips, eyelids, and toes since the terrible event in November 2010.
Additionally, all of his fingers were amputated from the second joint and his injuries make it hard for him to see.
Wang no longer attends school because the last one he attended sent him home after one day due to his appearance. And the youngster only has a handful of friends that have got used to the way he looks.
Doctor has said Wang needs at least three stages of surgery to achieve a “human” shape – with each phase costing up to 100,000 Yuan, which is about £10,000.
The family are appealing to local benefactors in the hope that donations will be made to help provide relief for Wang.
Surgeries: Further treatment could cost up to £30,000
