Two ladies, identified as Sade and Elizabeth have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command at Ago – Owu village in Itori town for act of cruelty to a two-year-old child.
The ladies were said to have gagged the baby girl before abandoning her in an unoccupied room adjoining a 12 room bungalow apartment after they had also tied her hands and feet.
The suspects, who are residents of the said building located at 45 Lagos – Abeokuta expressway, Ago – Owu village, Itori, were arrested last Tuesday.
A neighbour identified as Iya Lati whose attention was drawn to the baby’s cry was by her visitor, quickly alerted others who invited the police to the scene.
It was learnt that the officers from the Itori Divisional headquarters rescued the baby after they forcefully opened the room where she was kept.
The baby’s biological mother is said to have been ill for a long time and had to be taken to an undisclosed location by relatives for treatment while her daughter is left in the custody of her husband.
It was gathered that Sade who is said to be a live-in lover of the baby’s father took the alleged life threatening action against the little girl for reasons the police are still investigating.
The police spokesperson in Ogun State, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident said the suspects were in the police custody while the case would be transferred to Eleweran Command for further investigation.
